Xena
Xena was a feral dog living in the woods of rural AR
with Lottie. Xena was trapped first, and came to us
unsocialized, but very pregnant. She lived inside our
common room, in a whelping box, but would not let us touch
her. We would open the door to the yard and step back, to
allow her to go to the bathroom. She growled at us through
fear. She
gave birth to two live pups, and was an excellent mother. At
first she did not want us near, but gradually she allowed us
closer and finally to touch the pups. These gorgeous fat
bundles were, at 12 weeks, adopted to a
family. Xena
now walks well on leash, although it can take some coaxing to
get the leash on her. She remains cautious with people. She
has bonded with a blind/deaf dog, Ronnie, and loves to herd
him into the area where we leash them for walks. When he is
in, she usually comes. She and Bobo sometimes debate who is
boss. Xena
has lovely brown almond eyes, set slightly apart, making her
face very regal and beautiful.
