Meet the Dogs at Tara's Babies - Maryland

Martina

Martina is a beautiful, glossy-black, mixed breed from a shelter in Kentucky and is currently in a foster home. When she came to Maryland she was expecting, 2 days after arriving she gave birth to 8 adorable puppies, all of which found forever homes! She seemed to know that the shelter was no place to birth her pups.

She is a docile/quiet girl who communicates volumes with her expressvie eyes. She is super appreciative of the calmness in her new foster home, and always trys to give doggie kisses to show her thanks.

She is tolerant of other dogs and loves to be around people. She will adjust quickly to a warm loving family that can appreciate her unique good-looks!

Max

Max is a male Chocolate Lab mix who is about 4 months old. He was recently rescued from an overpopulated shelter in Arkansas where the dogs have very little, if any, chance for adoption.

His little front legs are bowed outward and the vet believes that Max has a premature closure of his growth plates (the ulna keeps growing but the radius does not) causing his legs to bow outward. If he doesn't have surgery to correct this, he may end up crippled.

To his advantage, Max is still a puppy and has a long life ahead of him! He desperately needs a good home that will care for him and his surgery needs so that he can grow up to be a healthy and happy dog!

Cuddlebug

Cuddlebug is a shy, yet exuberant girl, beginning to blossom with confidence. Rescued from euthanization in an Arkansas shelter, she arrived in her new Arizona surroundings with some trepidation. However, she is proving a loveable, loving girl who has lots of play energy. She is long, lean and beautiful.

Cuddlebug walks well on a leash, seems to do well with other dogs and would love to have a home where she could relax, play and know she never has to worry about her future again. She is less than 2 years old, and still has the joyful energy of a young dog.

She is healthy, spayed and up to date on all her shots.

Shania - ADOPTED!

Shania is a young, 1-2 yr. old female shepherd mix who is spayed. She came to us from a shelter in Kentucky this past February. She has been living in a foster home since she arrived here in Maryland, and has adjusted wonderfully.

She is a kind, sweet girl, who would not hurt a fly. She is very obedient, eager to please, easily trained, and walks well on a leash. She is extremely dog social and loves to play and wrestle with other active dogs.

It is easy to fall in love with her gentle nature and her soulful eyes. Her favorite thing to do in to sit in your lap while you watch TV or lay with you. To say she is affectionate is an understatement.

Misichi

Misichi, a personable lab mix was rescued from death at an over-crowded Arkansas shelter. She is probably around 6 months old.

When Misichi arrived she was a gangly puppy with a skin infection and was very thin; she was nearly euthanized because of her appearance. Luckily, someone saw past this, ensured she got treatment, and she is now healthy.

Her personality is 100% friendly with dogs and people of all sizes and ages; she seems ok with cats too, although she has not been formally 'cat-tested'. She loves to play, and she loves to BE LOVED.

She will make a wonderful companion animal in any family setting. Her rescuer called her Miss Sunshine, the social club secretary. She is so happy just to be alive.

She has an engaging, goofy walk when she runs, like her back legs don't coordiante with her front legs - she is so excited to explore the world and find her forever home!

Mortie - ADOPTED!

Here is a face you will fall in love with. Rescued from death in Arkansas, where he was frightened by the larger dogs in the overcrowded shelter, Mortie is still a little uncertain, but overflowing with love.

Although he is barely more than a puppy, and of smaller build, Mortie is doing well in a foster home with a larger dog and young child. He is currently being successfully treated for a non-infectious skin problem, exacerbated by the stress he experienced before being rescued.

But even lacking some hair, he is a dog you want to take in your arms and love forever. He needs a home for life.

Popo & Nunu

Breed: Taiwan Mountain Dog/Black lab mix. Both sisters are healthy, spayed and up to date on all of their shots.

Popo (top photo) and her sister Nunu (bottom photo) were rescued about 15 months ago, as 4-week-old puppies, abandoned by the roadside in Taiwan. They were thin, weak and ill.

A kind woman took the litter in, and nursed them back to health. Five of the litter found homes in Taiwan, but Popo and Nunu had no such luck; black dogs are not favored in Taiwan.

They moved to a shelter when the woman was no longer able to keep them, but unfortunately the shelter is closing and all the dogs were to be euthanized. Their rescuer was very upset, and looked for places in the USA to send all her rescued dogs. These sisters came to Tara’s Babies.

Popo and Nunu are a delight. They have the exuberance of youth and yet a true gentleness of nature. Nunu is the more excitable and assertive of the two, her sister Popo a little quieter. They curl together inside the one dog house, peering out with their beautiful faces. They are truly looking for love.

They are both friendly to dogs, children and adults and will make wonderful, loving pets. Both are leash trained.

Zach - ADOPTED!

Zach is a smart and lively shepherd cross who loves to run and play, full of energy and zest. About one year old, he loves to be with dogs and people alike, and gets miserable when left alone too much.

While on death row at a rural animal shelter, and probably due to stress, Zach developed the habit of chasing and biting his tail. He is now on medication to help break this behavior, and is doing well - his tail is healed and healthy. And when he gets attention and exercise, he forgets to chase his tail!

Zach really needs a caring home and people who understand that although he came from a hard, stressful life, he can look forward to a new life of love. He will return that love one thousand fold.

Wolfie

Wolfie is a very beautiful male dog with spectacular spotted stockings. He was rescued from an animal shelter in rural Missouri where he was due to be euthanized because of overcrowding.

Wolfie is a border collie mix between 1 and 2 years old. He has a quiet nature and is of medium activity level, but his spirit soars as he runs and plays with other dogs. He is in excellent health.

Wolfie is friendly and polite with adults but seems nervous around children. While he may overcome that fear, we want to place him in a home with no children. He seems fine with cats.

Wolfie has a sweet and easygoing nature and will make a loyal and loving pet.

Ace

Ace is exceptionally sweet with adults, children and other dogs and is referred to as a "talker". He wags his whole body if you give him a big rawhide and falls asleep on your lap when you rub his ears. Ace was found after being mauled, with one eye that narrowly avoided disaster. After treatment, his eye healed perfectly and both eyes now sparkle with playful love.

Ace is young and very smart - he will carry his emply bowl over when it's time for dinner! He loves to be loved, and will insist on your attention if there are other dogs around.

He is up to date with shots and is neutered. He is a black lab/chow mix.

Daniel

This photo does not do justice to this cute boy. His dark chocolate eyes will make your heart melt! Daniel was saved from an Arkansas shelter, where he was due to be euthanzied. He came to that shelter with the news he had spent much of his young life chained up.

This is unimaginable - he is such a gorgeous, energetic boy who wants to play and be loved. He is only about a year old, so he has that jumping energy of a pup needing a game, yet he also has a submissive air, quickly rolling on his back for love. He really wants to be told how best he can please you, and walks well on a leash.

He is known to have played with other dogs, although sometimes rough, no aggression has been evident. He certainly wants to run and play. He sits at the gate and cries for love. He is very ready to go to a home where someone wants to love and teach him. He will return your love many times over. He has never been tested with children.

Baby

She is a Lab/Taiwanese Mountain dog mix who weighs in around 26 lbs. She is spayed and up to date on all of her shots.

Two and half years ago, a female dog was was found on the streets with a young litter. The puppies were very ill, and some had distemper. Baby is the only survivor, due to the intensive care she received from her rescuer, Ms. Wu.

Baby completely recovered from distemper and is a gorgeous, playful, healthy and loving girl with glossy black hair. Initially Baby would struggle walking toward Ms. Wu tenderly; no matter how many times she fell down, she stood up again when she saw Ms. Wu.

For awhile, Baby went to live on a farm, where there was grass to lay on, and amazingly her walking improved, and now only sometimes seems a bit awkwardly cute. Unfortunately, after 1 1/2 years they sold the farm and could not keep baby.

She still loves to run and play, and although a bit shy at first, is a very loving dog. She is again ready to have a sweet home and a family to love.

Hambone - ADOPTED!

Hambone was rescued from death in a rural Arkansas shelter. He is under a year old, playful and overflowing with love. He is friendly toward people and other dogs too.

Although he is not formally 'cat-tested', he did not have any problems with Fred, the boss lady barn cat at the place where he was temporarily boarded before coming to Tara's Babies.

When he is petted Hambone croons in your ear with delight. He has quickly learned the command to sit, and walks very well on a leash.

Ham is healthy, up to date on all of his shots and neutered. He is ready to pack his bags and move to a new home!

Champ

Champ is probably about five years old, a black lab mix. Champ has a big heart and is exceptionally sweet.

When he first arrived he was very shy and very submissive and wouldn't come out of his dog house. He has come a long way and now will play with dogs and people.;

He is a handsome boy showing a little gray.It would be so wonderful for him to have a loving home where he can relax and enjoy his later years in life!

Treadmark

The shelter in rural Arkansas named him Treadmark...thinking his brindle markings looked like tire tracks. Theis guy is a little Arnold Schwarzenegger-sturdy and compact...handsome in that rugged way.

He's a mixture of strong breeds, maybe some bulldog, maybe some pit bull. As a dominant breed dog he will do well in a home with experienced dog owners.

For the right person, Treadmark will be a most loyal and lovable companion!

Highway 31

Found along the rural Arkansas road for which he was named, "Highway" was considered an abandoned stray, starving and scared. A one year old boxer mix, he was scheduled for euthanasia when he came to our attention. What a shame that would have been-we've never seen a dog that loves life as much as Highway does!

He's a high energy, athletic dog and needs lots of exercise. He has shown dominant behavior when he gets excited, so he needs a pack leader to show him the rules. And he will chase cats.

For the right person, Highway will be a happy and delightful addition to the family!

Red

Big smile and an easygoing nature, Red is a year old neutered male hound mix, about 50 lbs. Red was an abandoned stray picked up in rural Missouri.

This friendly guy gets along with people and dogs of all shapes and sizes. He is athletic and loves running and hiking, and will curl up at your feet at the end of the day.

Red is currently in a wonderful foster home and is looking for a forever home to be someone’s best friend!
