Tara's Babies Animal Welfare

No Kill Animal Rescue and Sanctuary

Practice kindness, save a life...change the world

Tara's Babies Animal Welfare began in the days following Hurricane Katrina when a small group of volunteers, horrified by the situation, went to help in the animal rescue effort. Working on their own, and in cooperation with Best Friends, they were part of the massive round-the-clock pet rescue effort. At the same time, a small team in Arizona quickly built emergency pet shelters. Over 130 dogs and cats were either driven or airlifted to this new sanctuary on former ranch land outside Payson, Arizona. With the support of countless volunteers and generous donors, the animals were cared for with constant love and kindness.

Since the Katrina experience, Tara's Babies has evolved from a temporary rescue operation into an organization committed to saving lives through ongoing dog rescue and adoption and providing life-long shelter for dogs that cannot be adopted.

In addition to the Arizona Sanctuary, where about 30-36 dogs are in residence at any time, Tara's Babies has a small  Adoption Program in Maryland. For more information contact the Maryland Coordinator, Alyce Louise Bertsche at info@tarasbabies.org.
