Eloise

Eloise was rescued from death in a rural Arkansas shelter. She was pitiful in appearance, neglected, with a terrible eye infection.  It is thought she may have spent her entire life of 3-4 years in a cage or chained up prior to ending up at the shelter.

Eloise is a friendly and inquisitive dog, with an assertive character, that wants to boss other dogs, but can live well with them as long as she is respected. She is medium size, and is spayed, up-to-date and generally in good health. She walks on the leash and is ready to be loved in a wonderful forever home.

Hildee - ADOPTED!

Breed: Shepherd Mix Weight: 33lbs

Hildee is about 3 years old and very playful. She came to us after she was abandoned by her owners at a boarding ' dog ranch', which is very supportive of us. They left her ostensibly to go on holidays, and just never came back.

Hildee is high energy, loves to play with her toys, and can play well with other dogs. She is in our training program, and does know her basic commands, but sometimes finds life just too exciting and distracting to want to listen! However, our trainer feels she actually is very smart and trainable once she listens. Because she likes to be on the go and see the world, she would do well with an active family. Of course, she does also rest as well!!

She was 'fostered' here for a while on site with one of our staff and three other dogs, and did well having company. She seemed to be fully house trained.

Khen

Breed: Extreme/Lethal Aussie Weight: 80lbs

This sweet boy was found abandoned near National Forest land and suffering from wounds from a fight with another stray dog.  The neighbors who found him thought that he would be euthanized at a local shelter.  They couldn't let that happen and brought him to us.

Khen is mostly blind and deaf, and was at first frightened by the noises of the sanctuary. He stayed in the staff quarters until he felt safe and secure and now enjoys his own dogloo.  Khen is like sunshine after a rainy day! Always happy, he loves to run in the field, his long legs stretched out a big smile on his face. He greets you with a big hug when you go into his run. While he is unsure in new places, in familiar territory he walks well on a leash. This very special guy is waiting for the very special home he deserves.

Khen is about 2 years old.

 Mr. H

Swimming for his life in flooded New Orleans, Mr. H found himself, as the waters receded, in a fenced yard which was not his! He is a bright and playful fellow who just wants company--a family of his own to return all the love he has to give.

Mr H is smart, and quick and has learned all his commands. He sits for meals, walks nicely on a leash, plays well with certain dogs and especially likes rolling on his back for a belly rub.  He will always be a puppy at heart, rambunctious, loveable, so eager to please.  Life is exciting!  This is a bursting-with-life dog who needs room to run and lots of love.  He would do best in a single dog home. In return, he will offer devotion, love and guaranteed play!

Mr H is a Catahoula mix, approx 3 years old. He is healthy, up to date on shots, and neutered.

 Mrs. H

Mrs. H spent more than seven days swimming and foraging through the unspeakable waters flooding New Orleans. When she was found by Tara’s Babies volunteers, she was two weeks pregnant.  With all that she had endured, the vet did not hold much hope for her giving birth to a healthy litter. But she proved us wrong, giving birth to eight healthy, strong pups! All have been placed in loving homes; Mrs. H is still waiting her turn.

She always greets you with a half-chewed red rubber ball and a full-body wag.  She doesn’t always listen because she is so happy to see you – and there is so much going on in the world – but she really does know how to sit!  Mrs. H. LOVES to splash in the hose and is always ready for a cuddle.

She’s a perfect companion for a one-dog house (she’s not good with other dogs) where she can chase her ball and get lots of love.

Mrs H is heartworm positive, but in good health. She is about 4 years old. She is up to date/spayed.

Persais

Breed: Pitbull   Weight:32lbs   Up to date/spayed

Persais is a lively, friendly pure bred pitbull, about 2 years old. She loves to be cuddled and play. She would probably do best in a single dog home.

Wyatt

Breed: Swiss Mountain Dog Mix  Weight:75lbs   Up to date on shots and neutered.

Wyatt is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mix, who came to Tara’s Babies Sanctuary in late 2006 from a horrific hoarding situation in the south. The gates to the kennels were overgrown from lack of use; food was simply thrown over the fence to the many neglected dogs.

A very handsome boy, with chocolate syrup eyes that melt your heart, Wyatt walks well on a leash. He has a lively personality  and likes to stand at the fence as dogs walk by and gleefully remind them he was boss!

Wyatt went to a foster home earlier this year, and his carer fell in love with him, deciding he should stay. He adjusted well to home life, and is house trained. However, life circumstances meant Wyatt came back to us at Dakini Valley.

Wyatt needs a place to settle, where he no longer has to worry if somebody will care for him forever. He would probably be best in a single dog home, with a yard for him to play in, and someone to give him reassurance with time and lots of love. In return, he will offer you devotion, companionship and love, for the rest of his life.

Pi-Pi

As one-month-old puppies, Pi-Pi and her shy sister Ru-Ru, wandered about at the rear of Yang Mei Senior High School, in Taiwan. Skinny and starving, they slipped into the school kitchen to find something to eat, where they were often beaten. Ms Wu, a school teacher, finally intervened, and placed the two dogs in an animal hospital for treatment and safety.

Now just over a year old, they are fully recovered and are happy, energetic youngsters who love to run and play.

Pipi is the elder sister - confident, and queen of the play yard. She knows how to sit, and comes over for pats.

Pipi earned the nickname 'flyer leaper' because of her agility to escape and explore the wider world (though never going far!), so she would need to be in a secure yard with high fence.   Her joyful effervescence at simply being alive is captivating.

Pipi is a lab/Taiwanese mountain dog cross

Angel

Angel is a loveable and loving female who has her hard years behind her, and is ready for a new home. Rescued from death at an Arkansas shelter, and obviously having had several litters over the years, Angel greets everyone with joyful anticipation and a readiness to cuddle.

She is strongwilled, having survived thus far in life, but eager to please. She walks well on a leash. Angel would probably do best in a single-dog home, and definitely not with another alpha female.

Angel is probably around 5 years old, and a bull terrier cross. She is healthy, spayed and up to date on all shots.

Ronnie

Breed: Lethal/Extreme Aussie          Weight: 65lb

Ronnie is smart, loveable and full of love, wanting to be cuddled and patted. He is completely blind and deaf, but that does not stop him interacting. And he finds where you are with his big beautiful nose!

He is about two years old, and came to us from a family whose older dog was not tolerant of his lack of sight. However, while living with them he oriented himself quickly to the home, knew to use the dog doors and got around just fine.

Friendly with other dogs, he has been sharing his run with a young female. When on his own, he can be demanding of attention, because he is so desperate for affection.

He does not have a mean bone in his body; he is all love.

Hershel

Hershel is the sort of dog that belongs playing in the yard with his tennis ball or loping along by your side on a walk. He is a delight to walk on a leash, follows well in an easy-going manner, no tugging or pulling. There is nothing fussy about him; he is just a great big loveable boy, with a debonair look. He is house-trained, and knows to "sit" on command. Hershel is a mature 7 or 8 years old

He is also a good watchdog and will bark at strangers. He would probably do best in a single dog household as he has shown dominance and can be protective of his food , but you will be rewarded by boundless devotion and love.

Rescued from a terrible hoarding situation, Hershel may never have known what it's like to be truly loved and cared for. What a sad thought ….he is ready and waiting now.....are you the person for him?

 Cuddles

Breed: Pitbull      Weight:60lbs

Cuddles is a true gentleman, elegant and well mannered.  Where is the black bow tie?  Exceptionally intelligent, he is a lovely big and gentle fellow who knows all his commands.  At dinner times, he is patient for his meals and even lets you take his favorite bone away without complaint (maybe just a sad, longing look).  Cuddles is afraid of water and wind, in spite of his tough-guy appearance.  He’s a favorite among staff and volunteers and would probably do best as an only dog.  Just you and him and love and kindness, which he will abundantly repay with his great loyal heart.  He loves to jump and frolic, and will need a high fenced yard.

Cuddles is approx 3 years old, neutered, heartworm negative and in excellent health.

 Martha & Charlie

Martha (top picture) and her brother Charlie, were strays living in the wilds of rural Arkansas. An elderly couple felt sorry for their hungry faces and skinny bodies, and began feeding them. Although very scared of people, they were friendly and started to come for meals. However, the couple was unable to offer permanent care, and the dogs were trapped by animal control, deemed unadoptable because they were feral, and faced death.

After a few months at Tara’s Babies, they have transformed into easy-going, people-loving pets, full- bodied at about 75lbs. Both are very friendly to people and dogs, walk well on a leash and are ready for a permanent home. Still nervous of car travel, they have proven they can learn to overcome fear, and will be wonderful, faithful companions.

They have lived happily both together and apart at our Sanctuary, can be adopted separately.
